Abstract
It was detected that during all the studied age periods myopia was the prevailing type of abnormal refraction in children with retinopathy of prematurity and its incidence decreased from 73.7% at 6 months to 60.5% at 24 months. Incidence of myopia including high myopia was significantly higher in the group of induced regression in comparison with the group of spontaneous regression (76 and 28.2% respectively).
In children with retinopathy of prematurity instability of refraction during the initial years of life is a feature of refractogenesis, which may change both towards amplification and attenuation of refraction.
Myopia formation in premature infants occurs against the background of eyeball growth retardation after premature birth; at that the lens and the cornea play the leading role in myopia development.
